Our Table Fits All: Knitters, Painters, Cutters and Occasional Singing

Updated: May 6

What happens when you put creative people around a table? Apparently, magic. And sometimes, singing.

Every session, our group gathers around the tables like they've been called home, and in a way, they have. Cards get made, frames get painted, and colourful creations take shape in ways that surprise even their makers. Everyone works at their own pace: some quiet and focused, others chatting enough to keep the whole room cheerful. Both are perfectly welcome.

And Then Someone Mentions It's Their Birthday...

The knitting needles pause. The paintbrushes go down. And without any rehearsal, any conductor, or any warning whatsoever, the room erupts into Happy Birthday. Is it perfectly in tune? That depends entirely on who you ask. Is it enthusiastic? Absolutely and unapologetically so. There's something about being sung to by a room full of people who genuinely mean it that no amount of planning can replicate.

This group has quietly grown into something rather special, a safe and welcoming space where people feel supported to try, learn, and express themselves. Creativity brings confidence, connection, and a genuine sense of community.

If you've been thinking about joining us, consider this your invitation. Bring yourself and your curiosity. Skill level does not matter. And if it happens to be your birthday? You're in for a treat.

Our arts and crafts group meets every Wednesday at Open Door Op Shop. All welcome, no experience needed, just enthusiasm (and perhaps a tolerance for glitter).
